A study of duration of untreated psychosis(DUP) for first episode psychosis

Abstract

|
Objective：The object of this study was to investigate DUP(Duration of Untreated Psychosis) as a basic mental health indicator for monitoring early detection and early intervention of first episode psychosis. Methods：We recruited 97 first episode psychosis who started treatment over 4 weeks from the 14 psychiatric hospitals which are located in Seoul city from August to December in 2007. We investigated socio-demographic information and psychiatric characteristics as well as DUP. Results：The average DUP was 840.3 days compatible with 120 weeks, 30 months and 2.5 years. The median number was 180 days and the greatest in number was 60 days. Conclusion：The DUP of first episode psychosis in Seoul who started first treatment in the year of 2007 was relatively longer than other western countries.
